Three months pa lang nakakasal sina Sen.

“I’m very, very happy,” simula ni Sen. Mar. “I don’t know, hindi ko alam kung paano ko. . . kung ilang “very” ang gagamitin ko pero very, very, very happy. ’Yung wedding day was magical, was such a high point, at saka talagang feel na feel ko, tuwang-tuwa ako talaga na mayroong isang Korina Sanchez na tinanggap ako at masasabi ko lang, from that day, then it got better pa. So, talagang hindi ko ma-describe how a wonderful life is.”

So, all of these things are part of adjustments. “Pero we have a lot of fun, and ang foundation nga is love, so, kahit mayroong mga rough patches, mga turbulence ay ano naman. I remember one thing I woke up, we had a little quarrel the day before, nandu’n sa mirror sa banyo, may note siya na nilagay du’n na “you know, I maybe pouting, I maybe throwing a tantrum, but I will always love you and I will always be there for you.” So, what a way to start your day, ’di ba? “So, ’yung mga ganu’n ba. So, it’s really quite magical and I recommend it highly, I recommend marriage highly,” mahabang say ni Sen. Mar.

Si Korina naman ay nag-e-enjoy daw siya sa kanyang bagong papel ngayon sa buhay which is maybahay nga ni Sen. Mar.

“Medyo alas-dies na ako nagigising, hindi na kailangang alas-siyete. Pali-nis-linis, ayan. Tapos, nang-huhuli ng daga sa bahay. Enjoy din ako doon. Kasi that’s the side of me that I’ve lost touch with for a while coz I’ve been too busy with Channel 2. Three daily shows ako dati. “The slower pace, well, medyo mayroon akong ano, parang I have a bit of separation anxiety at saka mayroon akong withdrawal symptoms, pero I’m slowly wheeling myself out of that paranoia, parang nadyo-jolt ako, eh, na wala akong ginagawa sa umaga. Pero, aba, okay ‘to. Hindi na ako nagmamadaling mag-make-up kasi may deadline. Tapos I can take my coffee every morning without having to look at my watch because... you know my life before was just one deadline after the other within the day,” say ni Ate Koring.

Mar said laughing. “But we keep trying.”

Sabi naman ni Korina, “one miracle at a time. Natapos ang himala ng kasal, hindi naman natin alam na ikakasal pa ako at lalo naman siya. ‘Yung anak, saka na ‘yun. Alam mo, mahirap ang magka-anak pag panahon ng kampanya. So, we’re not planning that yet.

Ha! Ha! Ha! Natiyope ako bigla! Basta, I will take the cue from Mar sa mga gagawin at pati na sa iuutos niya,” pahayag ni Koring.

Pagdating naman sa baby, kelan magaganap ‘yon?

“Wala pa, wala pa. We keep on trying!” sey ni Sen. Mar.

“One miracle at a time. Natapos nga ang himala ng kasal. Hindi ko alam na ikakasal pa ako! Pati nga siya, eh. Ha! Ha! Ha!"
“Mahirap magkaanak pag panahon ng kampanya. After the campaign, puwede na naming pagplanuhan ‘yan!” salo naman ni Korina.

Larawan nga ng masayang couple sina Sen. Mar at Korina na kahit intrigahin pa marahil ng ibang senador, never na maaapektuhan ang maganda nilang relasyon bilang mag-asawa, huh!

They exude an aura of perfect bliss – that’s how they appeared when they arrived Wednesday at the dinner presscon hosted by Mother Lily at the Imperial Palace Suites. Sen. Mar Roxas (who presscon host and colleague Ricky Lo said is now officially a Regal Baby!) and his wife Korina, to say the least, were the epitome of a husband and wife who honor each other in every way they act or converse.

In the on-going political campaign, Korina said: “I step aside, I don’t make myself noticeable. I only do or participate in a way that Sen. Roxas would ask me to do.”

Asked what is her reaction or comment to the “insertion joke” of Sen. Aquilino “Nene” Pimentel Jr., Korina said: “I was not affected at all! I didn’t feel offended. The apology has also no effect on me. What Sen. Pimentel said does not really matter. I just relax.”

As one of the country’s top broadcasters, Korina was used to meeting deadlines hour-on-the-hour. “Since I got married, I have to make a lot of adjustments. Without meeting any deadline now, I feel there was a vacuum in my life, and my body seems to yearn for those hectic schedules. Now I can drink my coffee leisurely in the morning, and I can even wake up late.”

Mother Lily opened the presscon by saying, with an apology to Korina, “that it was love at first sight for me and Mar Roxas.”

Mother Lily explained, “When I first met the young Mar, he readily impressed me with his candid charm and brilliant mind. I know he comes from a reputable family. Both the Aranetas and the Roxases are highly regarded clans.”

Mar’s father, Gerry Roxas was a respected senator, while grandfather, Manuel A. Roxas, was the country’s first president.

Mother Lily added: “I am very happy that Mar is continuing the legacy of his dad and lolo to serve the country. From the time Mar became a congressman, I never doubted his ability to lead and his genuine desire to serve the people.”

Mar’s uncle, George Araneta, is the wedding godfather of Mother Lily’s son Dondon.

“I did not think twice about supporting Mar because I believe in his ideals, his decisions, his vision. He committed himself to education, trade and industry, consumer welfare, the media, giving jobs to the unemployed and many more. “I trust Mar to also continue supporting local showbiz, so we can uplift the status of Philippine entertainment industry."

In response, Mar vowed not to disappoint Mother Lily! Mar, as everyone knows, is running for the vice presidency of the country, with Noynoy Aquino as the presidential standard bearer for the Liberal Party.

On the local movie industry, Sen. Roxas observed that the only remaining semblance of the industry is the annual Metro Manila Film Festival. Otherwise, the local movie industry is practically non-existent already.

“I don’t promise I can solve the ailments of the local movie industry,” Sen. Roxas stressed. “But there are still some measures that can be undertaken to promote and develop further the local movie industry. A delivery mechanism must be developed.”

He observed that the marketing of local films are still within the country, as it was in the past years or decades. The marketability of local films must be doubled, tripled, or through a delivery mechanism that a movie can be sold several times over.

A Tagalog movie is only sold to Tagalog audiences, because it is produced with Tagalog as its sound track. “But when it is dubbed into or with subtitles in other languages or dialects, the market for that particular movie is doubled or multiplied,” Sen. Roxas said.

Korean telenovelas, dubbed in Tagalog, have been long being shown in the Philippines. But why not also dubbed in Korean our telenovelas or movies? He asked.

Sen. Roxas expressed belief that a mechanism of delivery is one great factor that will sell our movies abroad – in fact – in the entire world, so to speak.

Regal Matriarch Mother Lily hosted a dinner-presscon for Sen./Vice Presidentiable Mar Roxas with the movie writers Wednesday night at the function room of her Imperial Palace Suites. Accompanied by brand-new wife Korina Sanchez, Mar was relaxed and engaging (read: showbiz na showbiz) unlike a few days earlier at the Senate when he lost his cool when a senior colleague showed bad manners by “inserting” malicious remarks against Mar. The offender promptly apologized in the form of a prayer — to Mar but not to Korina.

“Just the same,” said Korina, “I forgive him. Who am I naman not to forgive him?”

It is believed that those endorsed by Mother Lily finish winners 99 percent.

Here’s Mother Lily’s welcome speech which Mar said he would keep as a treasured souvenir after asking Mother Lily to autograph it:

Good evening, everyone. Thank you for coming tonight. I’m sure, Korina will not take this against me, but believe it or not, it was love at first sight for me with Mar Roxas.

When I first met Mar when he was still younger, he readily impressed me with his candid charm and brilliant mind. I know he comes from a reputable family. Both the Aranetas and the Roxases are highly regarded clans.

Mar’s father, Gerry Roxas, was a respected senator, while his grandfather, Manuel A. Roxas, was our first president, one of the most loved and best remembered. Their distinguished public service careers have greatly benefited our country.

I am very happy that Mar is continuing the legacy of his dad and lolo to serve the country. From the time Mar became a congressman, I never doubted his ability to lead and his genuine desire to serve the people.

I’ve followed Mar’s remarkable achievements through the years and I am convinced that the 20 million votes he got when he ran for senator were definitely not put to waste. He deserved every vote he got.

The people elected a fair, honest and selfless man to the Senate. I am confident they will again trust him with their votes, this time for him to become vice president. As Mar often said, he will not betray the trust of the people. I know he won’t.

I did not think twice about supporting Mar because I believe in his ideals, his decisions, his vision. He committed himself to education, trade and industry, consumer welfare, the media, giving jobs to the unemployed and many more.

I am aware that Mar has made personal sacrifices and commitments just to serve the country and improve the lives of Filipinos. Putting country above self, he continues what his lolo had taught him. He listens to the voices of the people, focuses on the pressing concerns and addresses the problems.

Even if he came from a wealthy family, Mar made sure there was no gap between him and the common people. That is one of his traits that I admire most.

I trust Mar to also continue supporting local showbiz, so we can uplift the status of Philippine entertainment industry.

I am proud to support Mar because I believe that he is a brilliant politician and a hardworking public servant. Together with Noynoy Aquino as president, I know they are out to make a difference for a clean, good and honest government.

I don’t expect Mar to do a miracle for our country. But I am sure he can effect change when he becomes the vice president to give us a brighter future. After all, he has the courage and competence to really become a national leader.

So let’s all support and vote for Mar. Tuloy ang laban!

Korina Sanchez Keeps Cool About ‘Insertion’ Issue

Broadcaster Korina Sanchez is unperturbed by the brouhaha that was raised in the Senate recently, specifically regarding Senate Minority Leader Aquilino Pimentel Jr.’s "insertion" comment, which freaked out her husband, Sen. Mar Roxas.

Pimentel was said to have made what many deemed as an inappropriate joke alluding to Mar’s marriage to Korina during Monday’s Senate plenary session on the C-5 controversy.

In a press huddle sponsored by Regal Matriarch Mother Lily Monteverde held at the Imperial Palace Jan. 27, the usually feisty broadcaster was cool as a cucumber.

Asked for her reaction about the controversial “insertion” imbroglio, the wife of Sen. Roxas simply retorted: “There came a point where I told Mar that I really wanted to be detached from politics. Because a big part of me is detached, I think it’s healthier that way even for both of us. “And I think it’s better for him that I’m detached…kung hindi baka ako 'yong sumugod sa Senado. "I also don’t feel as affected as probably people think that I am. So when people don’t want to apologize, it also doesn’t really affect me that much,” Korina stated.
“As Mar always tells me, kapag mayroong asungot sa buhay, he always tells me, 'You know you should relax because it’s really more a reflection of other people's [attitude] than yours. So, tama siya, ‘di ba? I mean, life is short. Bakit mo bubuwisitin ang sarili mo?”

She prides herself that she got a fighter of a husband in Mar.

“Meron akong knight in shining armor. Gano’n pala ang feeling ng api. Paminsan-minsan, okay rin pala ang api dahil meron nang nakikipagboksing [para sa akin]. Feeling ko ako si Dang Cecilio—o si Susan Roces pala—at siya si FPJ. It doesn’t really matter what [people] think as long as my honey is with me.”

With the campaign period about to come, what is her role in her husband’s bid for the vice presidency?

“Alam mo sa isang kampanya, ito ang isang bagay na natutunan ko: Maraming matalino at saka hindi puwedeng ipilit mo ang sarili mo. Sabi ko kay Mar, maganda siguro na I take a step back. Pagkatapos ko na makita ang plano ng grupo, kung saan n’yo ako kakailanganin, pupunta ako diyan. Pero, kung hindi naman nila ako uutusan, eh, bakit naman ipagpipilitan ko ang sarili ko. "Pero alam n’yo lahat naman kasi naka-align sa strategy. Hindi ka puwedeng gumawa ng sarili mong gimik nang wala rin naman suporta ng grupo. That’s one thing I learned about being a team player,” she explained.

Entertainment writers were curious about Sen. Roxas' plans for the movie industry. Here's what the popular VP-candidate has to say.

“Sa showbiz, sa entertainment, isang industriya ‘yan na sikat na sikat ang mga Pilipino. I think it’s a challenge for the entertainment or showbiz industry sa Pilipinas kung paano makahanap ng paraan para ang merkado na binebentahan niya ay lumaki hindi lang para sa Pilipinas lamang. It can extend to a market beyond,” he said.

“Paano uunlad ang industriya kung ang pagbebentahan lamang ay ang mahihirap na Pilipino? On the other hand, we can expand and extend the market to Asia, to the world; then we will have a bigger market. The same talent, the same effort can be valued with so much more. "Kung tayong mga Pilipino ay naa-appreciate ang produktong Koreano, puwede naman kasi na ang produkto natin ay maibenta natin sa kanila o sa iba pang mga bansa because the storylines are the same – boy meets girl, boy and girl get together, boy and girl fall out of love, hero falls in a hole.
“Ang point ko lang is to find a mechanism to be able to sell products beyond just the Philippines. I think if we’re able to do that in [Filipino] cinema, it would be so much more.”

SENATOR Mar Roxas and Korina Sanchez looked a perfect couple when they faced members of the entertainment press sa presscon organized by Mother Lily Monteverde at the Imperial Palace Suites the other night.

That they love each other even more now was very evident as they exchanged glances and touched each other’s hands.

Actually, both admit they are still in the “adjustment period.”

For example, kuwento ni Sen. Mar, there was a time na ang complaint ni Korina sa kanya tuwing umaga paggising nila ay his having more than his share of the blanket.

But Korina would always make up for it by posting a note of endearment, halimbawa, sa pintuan ng kanilang banyo.

“Ang sarap ng may-asawa, ha,” ani Sen. Mar. “I recommend it to everyone.”

Sinabi mo ’yan, ha, Sen. Mar. Why not recommend it to your presidentiable, Sen. Noynoy Aquino?

* * *

As for Korina, aniya, bilang asawa ni Sen. Mar, natutunan na niya when and how to keep her silence.
“Isang tingin lang ni Veanna (Fores, cousin ni Sen. Mar at talent manager to many a film star), alam ko na kung dapat o hindi kumibo,” susog ni Korina, who, as a tv host and newscaster, is known to be one of the most outspoken among her colleagues.

Korina gave up her public affairs shows sa ABS-CBN, though, for Sen. Mar’s ambition to become vice president.

As Sen. Noynoy’s runningmate, Sen.

Loren Legarda.

Ang presidentiable nila ay si Sen. Manny Villar.

MANILA, Philippines – If Liberal Party vice presidential candidate Sen. Manuel “Mar” Roxas II gets elected in May elections, will his wife, broadcaster Korina Sanchez, return to her old job?

Sanchez, the “Rated K” host, used to anchor late-night newscast “Bandila” and a morning radio program on dzMM with Ted Failon. She took a year off from these programs after the announcement of her engagement to Roxas.

Even before the campaign period begins, Roxas consistently ranked high in various election surveys.

In an interview with ABS-CBN News, Sanchez admitted that if her husband emerges victorious in the elections, it will be “weird” to do her news programs again.

“I imagine na hindi na pwedeng mag-news kasi parang ang weird,"she said. “I'd like to go back to radio but that really depends on ABS-CBN… [maybe just do] public service, which is love ko naman talaga.”

Everything depends on the management of ABS-CBN, she maintained.

“Kung manalo siya, mag-uusap kami ng management ng ABS-CBN,” she said.

Sanchez, meantime, said she is keeping a low profile in Roxas’ election campaign.

“Bakit ko naman pagpipilitan ang sarili ko? Kailangan kasi lahat yan naka-align sa strategy, so hindi ka pwedeng gagawa ng sarili mong gimmick,” she said.

She has also chosen to to be not too involved in politics.

“I really want to be detached from politics. It’s healthier that way, even for both of us.... better for him that I’m detached,” she added.

Mother Lily backs Mar’s bid

Film producer Lily Monteverde was a known supporter of Loren Legarda, the running mate of Nacionalista Party standard bearer Sen. Manuel Villar.

This year though, the Regal Films' head is backing Roxas’ vice presidential bid.

Monteverde explained that she is impressed by Roxas’ “candid charm” and “brilliant mind.”

“It was love at first time for me with Mar Roxas… I did not think twice about supporting Mar because I believe in his ideas, his decision, [and] his vision. I’m proud to support Mar because I believe he’s a brilliant politician and a hardworking public servant,” she said.

She added that she hopes Roxas will “continue supporting the local show business so that we can uplift the status of the Philippine entertainment industry.”

Roxas, on the other hand, thanked the Regal Films’ matriarch for her support.

January 28, 2010MANILA - Korina Sanchez accepted the apology of Sen. Aquilino Pimentel Jr. over a sex joke he cracked against Sanchez's husband, Sen. Manuel "Mar" Roxas II.
"Sino ba naman ako na hindi magpatawad, ano? (Who am I not to forgive?)," she told ABS-CBN News in an interview on Wednesday.

Pimentel had apologized for his remark, in which he said Roxas had "insertions" after his marriage to Sanchez, through a prayer before Tuesday's plenary session.

"This is what politics can do to people, the first thing that flies out of the window is honor," said Sanchez, who was attending a showbiz party for Roxas hosted by film producer Lily Monteverde or "Mother Lily."

Roxas is running for vice president under the Liberal Party.

"We're really hoping that this election becomes one of the most honorable, marangal, malinis (clean). Wala sanang below the belt na siraan, sana naman ano. (I hope there are no below-the-belt mudslinging)," she said.

Sanchez, a veteran broadcaster, said politics can bring out the worst in people, especially among those with "brittle character."

This was the first time that she spoke about Pimentel's "insertion" joke, which Roxas earlier said was an insult against his wife.

Sen. Mar Roxas Gets Ice Cream, Cake From Korina

Pimentel Apologizes; Roxas Gets Ice Cream, Cake
Philippine Daily Inquirer

MANILA, Philippines—Sen. Manuel “Mar” Roxas’ remark that it was a pity some men turn vulgar when they grow old may have worked.

On Tuesday, Senate Minority Leader Aquilino “Nene” Pimentel Jr. asked for forgiveness for using “intemperate language” during heated Senate debates on Monday on a resolution seeking to censure Sen. Manuel Villar over alleged “double insertions” in the controversial C-5 road budget.

Pimentel had said Roxas would have his own “insertions” now that he was married.

“To those who I might have hurt in this chamber by the use of intemperate language or unseemly expressions, I apologize and beg their forgiveness from You through You, O Lord,” Pimentel said as he led the chamber in its opening prayer.

To keep cool

He said that “in the heat, some of us tend to use words that are coarse and vulgar.”

“Forgive us, then, O Lord, our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us …”

Pimentel added: “Finally, we pray, Lord, You allow all of us to keep our cool so that we are not distracted by side issues.”

‘I will defend Korina’

Earlier, before the session began, a visibly miffed Roxas said that Pimentel owed his wife, broadcaster Korina Sanchez, an apology for the crude joke.

“There has been no apology and I don’t expect anything. I will defend my wife because her honor was trampled on and I will not allow that. But he does not need to apologize to me, he should apologize to her,” Roxas said.

Roxas added: “Kung kailan pa siya tumanda saka pa siya naging bastos (It’s a shame he became vulgar when he got old).”

Roxas is the Liberal Party vice presidential candidate. Villar is the Nacionalista Party standard-bearer.

Demand for apology

Monday’s debate took a combative turn when, commenting on Roxas’ statement that he had made no insertions in the national budget, Pimentel remarked: “After your marriage, you will have your insertions.”

Roxas burned at the remark and shouted: “I demand that that be removed from the record! This is an affront to my wife.”

In a separate exchange, also on Monday, with Sen. Jamby Madrigal, Pimentel had said: “At least, I am not an abused child.”

Senate demeaned

Akbayan party-list Rep. Riza Hontiveros, a Liberal Party senatorial candidate, said Pimentel’s joke demeaned the Senate proceedings and did not help his ally Villar at all.

“I am asking Senator Pimentel to apologize over his insertion joke. It was absolutely uncalled for, irrelevant, and it should not have been said at all, especially by a senator who has a well-respected reputation as a freedom fighter,” Hontiveros said.

“They can defend Senator Villar for all they want without being anti-women or without losing civility,” Hontiveros said.

No quarrel with Korina

Pimentel told reporters he had no intention of insulting Korina Sanchez when he made the quip about insertions.

“Certainly, that was not my intention … I have no quarrel with Korina. I have respect for her as a very able host of a popular TV show and a lady. I have nothing against her,” Pimentel said.

“So, I cannot apologize for something that I did not intend. Well, maybe if I was misunderstood then maybe I should apologize. But only up to that,” he said.

“But let me just make it clear, I have no quarrel with her. Why should I have a fight (with Korina),” he added.

Ice cream for Mar

Pimentel said his words should not be taken as an attack on women.

“My wife is a woman and my grandmother was a woman. I have four girls in my family so it’s impossible that it was a slur against women,” he added.

Roxas said Sanchez gave him a scoop of ice cream and a cake after he stood up for her on the Senate floor.

Roxas said Sanchez called him her “hero.”

Take a bow, Korina Sanchez!

I’m sure her husband, Sen./Vice Presidentiable Mar Roxas, is mighty proud of his Koring who has been ranked 2009’s No. 1 Most Trusted Personality by a series of Social Weather Stations (SWS) surveys.

Korina got a rating of +60% (Very good), followed by Ted Failon with +40% (Good) and Willie Revillame with +20% (Moderate).

The surveys on the net trust ratings of selected personalities were included in the SWS quarterly surveys conducted every February, June, September and December.

“The personalities were randomly included in the surveys,” said SWS president Mahar Mangahas, adding, “they’re not higher because they are media, it just so happened.”

In the June and September 2009 surveys, Korina got more than +50% rating. In March last year, she went on leave from her work as anchor lady of the ABS-CBN late-night newscast Bandila but she continues to host the Sunday show Rated K. She and Mar got married in October also last year.

“She was in there (in the survey) because she was a political figure,” said Mangahas.

Korina Sanchez-Roxas and Mar Roxas: “Mar’s gift to me was a trip to Paris and watching fireworks from the Eiffel Tower. My gift to him would have been a surprise when we got to Paris. As plans changed and circumstances required, we had to postpone our Parisian holiday. That means we just exchanged hugs and kisses.”
