Korina Sanchez and Mr. Palengke
Korina Sanchez and Mr. Palengke

Meanwhile Kris's co-host on "Morning Girls," broadcast journalist Korina Sanchez, also has a new man in her life and he is a politician like Mark. It will be recalled that Korina was once linked to Kris's older brother, Congressman Noynoy Aquino. Now, it's former congressman and trade secretary and senatorial candidate Mar Roxas. Known as Mr. Palengke in his political ads, the 46-year-old Wharton graduate is the country's most eligible bachelor. Well, make that "single father" since Mar has openly admitted that he has a love child, 10-year-old Paolo Gerardo.
Mar comes from two well-heeled clans -- his father was ex-Senator Gerry Roxas and grandfather was the late President Manuel Roxas, while his mother is Judy Araneta, whose family are the owners of the sprawling Cubao Commercial Center whose anchor is the Araneta
Coliseum.
Neither Mar nor Korina has openly admitted their romance and they are very careful about their public appearances. But neither has denied the rumors, either. Korina is tickled pink whenever Ted Failon, her co-host on their top-rating radio program on DZMM, would tease her about Mr. Palengke. Mar gamely appeared one time on "Morning Girls" where he gave Korina a bouquet of flowers and a tender kiss on the cheek.
The two met in the early 90s when Mar was a neophyte congressman representing Capiz and Korina was a rising broadcast journalist. They became friends but their relationship did not progress to the next level because they were both involved with other people. They renewed their friendship three years ago and this time, there were no hindrances.
Interviewed by Boy Abunda, Mar said of Korina, "Matapang siya, hanga ako sa kanya. Matapang siya, mahirap siyang abutin. Pero nang makilala ko na siya, may heart of gold pala. Talagang mabait and gentle. In fact, sa kabila ng kanyang katapangan, very gentle ang kalooban niya. Gusto ko rin yun kanyang pagkaprinsipyo."
Of her physical attributes, this is what Roxas had to say: "Maganda siya, may dating. Ang pinakamagndang katangian niya yung kanyang mga mata. Very expressive. Nakikita ko yung kanyang kalooban sa kanyang mga mata."
Korina returns the compliment, saying "He's sweet, considerate, thoughtful, child-like and in touch with his thoughts and feelings. He's everything macho while having enough appreciation for what is female. It's funny that while he has a reputation for being a ladies' man, he shares the reputation of being gay, only because he remains unmarried. He's really the type many Filipinas would go for--quiet, no frills, sensible, private, very family-oriented and very hardworking."
Pressed about their future plans, Mar could only say, "Hindi natin hawak ang bukas. Lahat naman tayo ay nagnanais na may nagmamahal sa atin at may mamahalin tayo. Pero siguro, pagdating na lang ng panahon." Korina says it's too early in their relationship for her to say if they're really meant for each other. She calls media reports about them as overblown and speculative.
