BEFORE a crowd of more than 6,000 Cebuanos, Sen. Mar Roxas and TV anchor Korina Sanchez played the romance of their upcoming wedding – and Roxas' presidential bid – to the hilt.
The couple made their first public kiss since they confirmed their engagement when they visited barangay Inayawan, Cebu City yesterday to promote Roxas' Padyak-Padyak Caravan program.
The crowd shouted for one kiss more, so the couple ended up smacking each other on the lips lips three times.
Roxas drove a pedal-powered trisikad or “padyak” for more than kilometer to the Inayawan barangay hall with children as his passengers. At least 20 trisikads were raffled to residents.
Asked why Inayawan was chosen among Cebu City's 80 barangays, Sanchez told a press conference later at Waterfront Hotel that hey noticed the large population of urban poor. -“Kawawa ang mga bata doon,” she said.
She said the trisikad was environment-friendly, provides good exercise and was a symbol of poverty.
In the evening, Roxas attended program in Park Mall located at North reclamation in Mandaue City.
The ABS-CBN anchor, who announced last Friday she was taking a one-year leave of absence from her radio and TV news program to prepare for her wedding, said Cebuano couture designer Cary Santiago was being tapped for the wedding.
But she kept mum about the special date.
“I don't have a wedding date yet,” said Sanchez smiling.
About her fiance's political chances in the 2010 election, Sanchez said Senator Roxas would continue to make record of winning votes.
She described her future husband as “smart, honest, and most of all is respectful”.
Santiago, who established his career in the Middle East before returning to Cebu, has designed gowns and sophisticated evening wear for celebrities and well-heeled women.
He designed Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia's Sinulog costume as a “goddess of the sea” in 2008.
