SEN. Manuel “Mar” Roxas II and his fiancee Korina Sanchez visited Cebu City yesterday morning to distribute trisikads and slippers to residents of Barangay Inayawan.
About 20 bicycles with sidecars and at least 300 pairs of slippers went to Inayawan residents and their children, as part of the senator’s “Padyak Caravan, Padyak Laban sa Kahirapan” project.
Sanchez, who represented Roxas in a press conference, said they chose Inayawan because it is one of the largest barangays in Cebu City.
She added that Roxas chose the trisikad or “padyak” because it “is identified as a more affordable means to have an income and every part of the country has padyaks.”
Services such as free haircuts, feeding programs and medical missions were also given to the residents.
Sanchez told reporters that if Roxas does run for president in 2010, he deserves to win.
“I think he (Mar) should be President because even as a senator, he is not like the other senators who are clowning around,” said Sanchez.
The latest Social Weather Stations survey placed Roxas fifth among possible presidential candidates in 2010, with about five percent of 1,200 respondents behind him.
Sanchez, however, believes Roxas is “safe” in his current survey rankings. “It’s dangerous to be on top (of the surveys),” she added.
Sanchez confirmed she has started an indefinite leave of absence from broadcasting duties at ABS-CBN, in preparation for her upcoming wedding to Roxas. She will also help in Roxas’ projects, she said.
