MANILA, Philippines – If Liberal Party vice presidential candidate Sen. Manuel “Mar” Roxas II gets elected in May elections, will his wife, broadcaster Korina Sanchez, return to her old job?

Sanchez, the “Rated K” host, used to anchor late-night newscast “Bandila” and a morning radio program on dzMM with Ted Failon. She took a year off from these programs after the announcement of her engagement to Roxas.

Even before the campaign period begins, Roxas consistently ranked high in various election surveys.

In an interview with ABS-CBN News, Sanchez admitted that if her husband emerges victorious in the elections, it will be “weird” to do her news programs again.

“I imagine na hindi na pwedeng mag-news kasi parang ang weird,"she said. “I'd like to go back to radio but that really depends on ABS-CBN… [maybe just do] public service, which is love ko naman talaga.”

Everything depends on the management of ABS-CBN, she maintained.

“Kung manalo siya, mag-uusap kami ng management ng ABS-CBN,” she said.

Sanchez, meantime, said she is keeping a low profile in Roxas’ election campaign.

“Bakit ko naman pagpipilitan ang sarili ko? Kailangan kasi lahat yan naka-align sa strategy, so hindi ka pwedeng gagawa ng sarili mong gimmick,” she said.

She has also chosen to to be not too involved in politics.

“I really want to be detached from politics. It’s healthier that way, even for both of us.... better for him that I’m detached,” she added.

Mother Lily backs Mar’s bid

Film producer Lily Monteverde was a known supporter of Loren Legarda, the running mate of Nacionalista Party standard bearer Sen. Manuel Villar.

This year though, the Regal Films' head is backing Roxas’ vice presidential bid.

Monteverde explained that she is impressed by Roxas’ “candid charm” and “brilliant mind.”

“It was love at first time for me with Mar Roxas… I did not think twice about supporting Mar because I believe in his ideas, his decision, [and] his vision. I’m proud to support Mar because I believe he’s a brilliant politician and a hardworking public servant,” she said.

She added that she hopes Roxas will “continue supporting the local show business so that we can uplift the status of the Philippine entertainment industry.”

Roxas, on the other hand, thanked the Regal Films’ matriarch for her support.
