Korina Talks About Resuming Journalist Post

MANILA, Philippines - More than a year since Korina Sanchez left her duties in the newsroom to marry and support the political candidacy of Sen. Mar Roxas, she returns to media saying she feels as if she never left.
“Ako, naninibago? Hindi. Parang... it's like riding a bike na 'pag natuto ka mag-bisikleta, na kahit na matagal na matagal ka ng hindi nagbibisikleta, 'pag binalikan mo 'yung bisikleta medyo gegewang-gewang ka sa una pero makukuha mo rin 'yun after one minute. Siguro parang gano'n sa pagbabalita,” Korina said about her return to TV in an interview with “The Buzz” on Nov. 28.
Korina marked her return as news anchor on the Nov. 8 broadcast of “TV Patrol,” along with former vice president Noli de Castro and Ted Failon. Korina admitted that she missed newscasting, most especially her rapport with her audience.
She added that despite being married, her work will remain a priority. Korina also spoke of retaining her credibility in delivering the news.
“Kasi 'yung mga programa ko nagkataon diverse, 'no. Basta ang tao, gusto yata nila talaga 'yung totoo. Que nagpapatawa ka, malungkot ka, galit ka... kung ikaw ay sinsero, credible ka sa kanila,” said she.
Korina opened up about her married life. The couple wed on Oct. 27 last year amid Mar’s political obstacles. Despite the tumultuous time they had in the previous election, Korina stood by her husband’s side.
“'Yung nangyari nung eleksyon, lalong nagpatibay ng aming pagsasama. Kasi alam mo napakahirap nung nangyaring yun sa kanya no, hindi inaasahan. So, sa pinakamalalim at pinaka-importanteng lebel, lalo naming napatunayan sa isa't-isa na, you know, we're in this through thick and thin.
"That's what we kind of struggled with, na abnormal 'yung pagkatapos na pagkatapos ng kasal, 'yun na kaagad. Sana kung masaya ang kinalabasan, [pero] hindi. Pero, you know, misery is optional. There's always an option to look at a glass half-full rather than half-empty,” Korina shared.
She candidly admitted that she is “masunurin” to Mar, confirming the common belief that independent women usually turn out to be submissive to their husbands. She said that their differences serve to balance their union.
Asked if Mar will run for office in the next elections, Korina said she leaves it all up to him.
“You know, para sa akin yung kasagutan [diyan], it doesn't depend on me. Dahil ang relasyon ni Mar ay sa taong bayan, eh. Labing apat na milyon ang bumoto sa kanya. I mean, to me ha, paano mo sila aabandonahin? Hanggang ngayon hinahanap pa nila, 'Nasan si Mar?’
"Sabi nga ni Jinkee Pacquiao [referring to husba'nd Manny's retirement from the ring], kung ano ang gusto niya, susunod ako. Kasi gano'n pala yun, na kapag nanumpa na kayo sa harap ng dambana, iba eh. For some reason, ang feeling mo isa na kayo. Kung ano 'yung landas niya, dun ka susunod.”

“Oo naman! Yes. Ewan ko kung 'mga' ha. Sana maka-swerte ako kahit isa. Ipagdasal po ninyo sana… sabi ng aking doktor, 'Pwede pa pero magmadali ka na please, Korina,'” she said.
