Talk about the purported separation of former Sen. Manuel “Mar” Roxas II and his wife, TV news anchor Korina Sanchez, has been heard in Senate hallways and the corridors of TV networks—actually, all over—for months.
People just can’t seem to stop speculating about the high-profile couple, who tied the knot at Santo Domingo Church in Quezon City on Oct. 27, 2009.
Described as the wedding of the year, it was witnessed by luminaries from politics and entertainment. President Benigno Aquino III, who would be Roxas’ running mate in the national elections eight months later, was among the principal sponsors.
The wedding was front-page news, needless to say, certainly a happy event. Now the buzz is not so pleasant.
So far, the worst version had Sanchez leaving the QC conjugal home and moving back to her own pad in Makati last year.
Around this, all sorts of complicated ramifications have sprouted, ranging from the dramatic (that Roxas is still smarting from his defeat in the vice presidential race last May) to the scandalous (that there is a third party, and not only that—the other woman is separated and older).
Even Sanchez’s industry colleagues admit they have heard the rumors, particularly the one linking the politician to the middle-aged socialite. These same TV insiders, however, say Korina and Mar are always seen together in society events.
Sought for comment once and for all, Sanchez, who recently resumed her job as main anchor on the prime time newscast “TV Patrol,” addressed the issue squarely. ABS-CBN Corporate Communications spoke to her, and she vehemently denied all the talk. She said: “Sorry to disappoint the source [of the rumors], but we are so much in love and happy together.”
