In a recent interview with Korina Sanchez, the award-winning broadcast journalist told ABS-CBN.com that she looks forward to going back to work since her official leave of absence already ended for more than two months now. “Actually, my official leave ended last May 11. Pero dahil nag-file si Mar (Roxas) ng protest at nagkaron ng complication sa kanyang canvassing so I decided to extend my leave for a while. Naintindihan naman ng ABS-CBN 'yun, mabait sila sa akin. Pero siyempre kailangan may representasyon ako sa management. So we’re having a series of meetings to see where do I go from here. Tutal naman Citizen Mar na lang si Mar ngayon, wala naman siyang posisyon sa gobyerno, hindi naman siya kandidato, so sana makabalik din ako.”

Korina further stressed that she had been very careful not to use her position in ABS-CBN to her advantage when she campaigned for Mar’s bid for vice president during the previous national elections. As such, she’s hoping that there wouldn’t be any conflict with her work. But as ABS-CBN News and Current Affairs head Maria Ressa said in a recent press con, the rule of thumb is to wait for another year before reassessing if Korina could resume her responsibilities as one of their leading broadcasters. “Sinugurado ko naman na ‘di ko ginamit ang kahit ano sa aking mga plataporma, maparadyo man yan or TV para sa kampanya ni Mar. And more than a year before the elections, nag-leave na ako. Para yung integrity is there at hindi masabi ng ibang tao na ginamit ko ang ABS-CBN. I hope they also appreciate that,” she explained.

When asked what she wants to do aside from hosting Rated K, Korina was quick to say that she missed her tandem with Ted Failon on DZMM Teleradyo. “I hope to be able to go back to radio kasi yun ang buhay ko na talaga, kung anong lumalabas sa bibig mo ikaw yun e. Siyempreopinyon yun, may lisensya ka na magkaron ng opinion, mas walang bahid yun. Namiss ko yung radio so hopefully makabalik ako dun. Pero depende pa rin yan sa management,” she stated.

Korina Sanchez has announced she’s ready for comeback.

During the opening of Sarabia Optical’s first Contact Lens Hub in SM Megamall last Wednesday, Korina told media she missed her job with the News and Public Affairs of ABS-CBN and DZMM Radio. At the same event, Korina said she was already in talks with the network’s bosses to discuss what’s available for her.

“What’s next for me depends on ABS-CBN management. Now that Mar is just a private citizen, I don’t see any reason I can’t go back to my former platform. It will depend on the network’s sensitivity with the recent election. If there’s still a hangover from the campaign and they would like to take more time, it’s fine with me. I will always be with them,” she explained.

Until Korina reveals her and management’s plans for her, all else remains speculation. One of the unconfirmed reports said that she would be paired with former Vice President Noli “Kabayan” de Castro in an early morning radio show.

“I heard about that and I’ll be glad to work with him. Kabayan was actually my first co-anchor and it was because of him that I became eloquent with my Tagalog. I’m happy that he returned to radio because it has been a long time since we heard his voice in the morning,” she said.

What is certain is that Korina’s “Rated K” TV show will continue. She is grateful that the Kapamilya network didn’t axe the show during the campaign season of this year’s elections.

“I was very sure that everything I did in that show had nothing to do with Mar or politics. I was very careful. In fact I took a leave of more than a year before elections. Which I think no one can complain about me anymore,” she added.

After more than a year in hiatus from broadcast journalism, how’s married life treating her? “I’m very happy. There’s emotional stability, emotional security and I think it was the right time for us to settle down. We don’t fight about petty things and I strongly recommend that you get married when you’re 40 years old and above,” smiled Korina.

As to having a baby, Korina revealed that her OB-gyne is urging them to hurry up. “I have kept myself healthy for the time that I’ll be ready to have a child. And it will be sooner than later!”

Korina Sanchez on Kris Aquino: ‘She’s old enough to know what she wants

Korina Sanchez was looking every bit the contented married woman when she showed up at Vivian Sarabia’s press launch for a new range of contact lenses at SM Megamall last Wednesday, July 21. It was her first public appearance after all the hustle and bustle of the recent national elections where she was busy campaigning for her husband Mar Roxas. “I enjoyed my extended leave. I’ve been entertaining a lot kasi ayoko rin masyadong lumalabas. Madalas nandun lang ako sa bahay ng friends ko or classmates ko. So ganon, kakaibang pace naman. Nakakapag-salon salon ako ngayon,” she happily shared in an interview with The Buzz and ABS-CBN.com.

Her leave of absence also gave her the chance to settle down without having to worry about work since she used to have four daily shows on TV and radio. And so far, she learned that the key to a happy marriage is not to sweat the small stuff. “Kami ni Mar, we've been on for six years, and this is our first year of marriage. Hindi naman madali all the time. But when you’re mature and you’re older when you get into marriage or a relationship, medyo mas alam mo na sanggain yung mga bagay na alam mong hindi dapat payagang makasira sa pagsasama. Kasi minsan kahit na maliit na bagay, kapag naipon, kinakalawang yung pagsasama.”

Speaking of marriage, ABS-CBN.com asked Korina how she feels about her friend Kris Aquino wanting to end her marriage with James Yap. Although they haven’t talked to each other yet, Korina believed that Kris is going to be okay no matter what happens. “Si Kris lang talaga ang may alam kung anong nangyayari sa kanila. Iba yung pananaw ni James, iba yung pananaw ni Kris, so it's very difficult to judge. But from what I know about Kris from all her other relationships in the past is that kaya naman niya. I think ang pinakaimportante sa kahit na sinong tao ay yung masaya ka. And if that would make them happy, then they should go for it, whatever that is. And I am sure whatever Kris decides to do for herself, she'll survive with flying colors. She's old enough to know what she wants,” she maintained.

Korina stressed that she respects Kris’s silence about the whole issue because no one has the right to tell them what to do except the parties involved. “Ang taong umiibig, hindi mo naman mapipigilan. You can only keep supporting them. You can only keep supporting your friends. You can’t tell them what to do. I never attempted. Si Kris naman alam niya na kapag hindi naman siya tumawag sa akin, ibig sabihin she's not in deep trouble yet. At kung hindi siya tumatawag, alam kong gusto niyang sarilinin yung problema niya. As long as between the two of them nagkakaintindihan sila what they want for their children and for their parents, then everybody else does not matter.”

After almost a year of absence, respected broadcaster Korina Sanchez is excited to return to broadcast journalism.

Korina got sidelined by her wedding to Sen. Mar Roxas in 2009, and the 2010 national elections during which she campaigned for his bid as Vice President.

“Ready na akong bumalik. It now depends lang kung ano ang babalikan ko, kung ano ang puwede. Sabi ko, citizen Mar naman si Mar ngayon. I don’t see any reason naman why I can’t go back to my former platforms,” Korina said in an interview aired on “Showbiz News Ngayon,” July 22.

All she’s waiting for is ABS-CBN's nod.

“Pero depende pa rin ‘yan sa sensitivities ng corporate stand. Nagpapasalamat nga ako sa ABS-CBN dahil kahit noong panahon ng kampanya, pinayagan pa rin nila na mag-'Rated K' ako.”

Korina may have been less visible on TV but it's a different matter in other areas of her life.

“Ako naman ‘yung tipong hindi puwedeng walang project. So marami akong sinimulan that I’m also busy with that has everything to do with my charities and also my family. ‘Yung mga kapatid ko natututukan ko ngayon. Saka nababalikan ko ‘yung pagsusulat ko. I’m busy with that,” said the workaholic broadcaster.

Asked about her being a wife, Korina joked, “Halata na ba? Hindi pa naman [halata], ‘di ba? Kaya nga pag lumalabas ako [ngayon], napipilitan akong mag-ayos. Sabi ko, ayokong magmukhang misis.”

The feisty newscaster maintains it was just right for her to settle down last year.

“Parang may emotional stability ka. Meron kang emotional security. I think it was really the right time to kinda settle down kasi may edad na kami pareho. Hindi na kami petty. Wala na kaming masyadong pinag-aawayan.”

Korina acknowledges her followers' excitement over her and Mar’s plan to have a baby.

“Pinag-uusapan na rin namin ‘yon kasi sabi ng aking OB-Gynecologist, 'Bilisan mo na.' Matagal na niyang sinasabi sa akin ‘yon. So, I kept myself healthy for the time when I’m really ready to have a child.”

MANILA, Philippines – After taking a leave of absence for more than a year, veteran broadcast journalist Korina Sanchez wants to fully resume her radio and television career on ABS-CBN.

In her first media interview after the May 10 elections, Sanchez, wife of defeated Liberal Party (LP) vice presidential bet Manuel “Mar” Roxas II, said she is having a “series of meetings” with network's executives to discuss what’s next for her.

“Ready na akong bumalik. It now depends kung ano ang babalikan ko, kung ano ang puwede. Sabi ko ‘Citizen Mar’ naman si Mar ngayon, so I don’t see any reason why I can’t go back to my former platforms,” she said.

She clarified, however, that it’s still all up to the ABS-CBN management.

“So, kung sensitive sila sa parang hangover from the campaign and the elections, kahit palipasin ‘yon it's really fine with me. I will always be with them so it really all depends on what we talk about,” she said.

In 2009, Sanchez, 45, took a leave of absence from ABS-CBN after she got engaged to the 53-year-old former senator, who was then aiming for a presidential run.
She used to co-host "Tambalan Failon at Sanchez" on radio dzMM and was an anchor of ABS-CBN's late night news program, "Bandila."

She, however, continues to host her award-winning TV magazine program, “Rated K,” every Sunday even during her leave.

According to Sanchez, some have suggested that she work in tandem with former Vice President Noli de Castro on radio dzMM. She said she would be glad to work with him, but it still depends on the outcome of her meetings with ABS-CBN management.

Sanchez used to host “Magandang Umaga Po” with De Castro.

When asked if she was willing to accept a government post, Sanchez said she prefers to continue her work as a journalist.

“Talagang love ko ang pagiging journalist ko, pagsusulat, radyo at TV.... ‘Yan talaga ang medyo na-miss ko... I’m looking forward to going back,” she said.

Baby coming soon?

For the past months, Sanchez said she has been preoccupied with some of her pet projects.

“And also my family, mga kapatid ko natututukan ko ngayon. At nababalikan ko ang pagsusulat ko, So, I’m busy with that,” she said.

She added: “Hindi ko namalayan kasi busy kaming nangagampanya. In touch pa rin ako sa friends ko sa ABS-CBN so parang hindi ako nawala. Abreast pa din ako sa mga tsismis sa loob. Parang it hasn’t really been that long,” she said.

Sanchez also said she is having a blast with her married life. She said she likes the fact that she now has “emotional stability” and “emotional security.”

“It was really the right time to settle down kasi may edad na kami pareho. Hindi na kami petty. Wala na kami masyadong pinag-aawayan. So, recommended ko ‘yan, kailangan talaga 40 and above kayo mag-asawa. (Laughs),” she said.

Having a baby is also part of her plan, she said. “Pinag-uusapan na din namin ‘yon. Kasi sabi sa akin ng OB-Gynecologist ko: ‘Bilisan mo na.’ Matagal na niyang sinasabi sa akin ‘yon. I kept myself healthy for the time when I’m really ready to have a child. That will be sooner than later.”Electoral protest

But she admitted that she and Roxas have been very busy with their respective work. “Hindi ko siya ma-kidnap from what he has to do. Ako naman, may ‘Rated K.’ So, ganoon na naman ang buhay namin. Pag gising ko wala na siya, tapos siya naman pag gising niya wala ako.”

Roxas, in particular, is still active in the Liberal Party. He has also filed an electoral protest questioning the results of the vice-presidential election last May 10.

Sanchez said she fully supports Roxas’s electoral protest.

“Para kaming namatayan [nang matalo si Mar]…. ‘Yung protest ni Mar not necessarily to overturn the results [but] to find out what went wrong with the system…. And I fully support Mar in this, kasi biro mo tatlong milyong boto ang hindi malaman kung saan napunta,” she said.

On Kris-James marital woes

Sanchez was also asked to comment on the latest marital problems of Kris Aquino and James Yap. Both Aquino and Sanchez used to host a morning TV program on ABS-CBN.

Sanchez assured that she will always be there for Aquino, but she would rather not meddle.

“It's a very sensitive time for her. Medyo personal na personal ‘yan at pumunta siya sa abroad, which tells me that she doesn’t want to be bothered,” she said.

When asked to give a message to Aquino, Sanchez said: “Kris, you’re a grown woman and with all of the trials and obstacles that I’ve been there with you, I saw that you were able to handle all of those with flying colors. And now that you’re even more mature, I know that you know what you’re doing.”
